Broadway veteran Bill Pullman will play the President of the United States and father to The Book of Mormon’s Josh Gad in the new NBC pilot 1600 Penn, according to EW.com. As previously reported, Gad will serve as co-writer and executive producer of the new comedy. Brittany Snow has also joined the cast to play the first daughter.
1600 Penn follows a dysfunctional First Family in which the out-of-control oldest son (Gad) returns home and becomes not only its biggest liability, but also the glue holding everyone together. Gad co-created the sitcom with frequent Modern Family director Jason Winer and Jon Lovett, a former speechwriter to President Obama.
Pullman is perhaps best known for his role as the President of the United States in the blockbuster film Independence Day. His other film credits include Lost Highway, Sleepless in Seattle, Ruthless People, While You Were Sleeping, The Grudge, Spaceballs and Scary Movie 4 . Pullman appeared on Broadway in 2009 opposite Julia Stiles in Oleanna, and opposite Mercedes Ruehl in Edward Albee’s Tony-winning The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? He also appeared off-Broadway in Albee’s Peter and Jerry in 2007 at Second Stage. Pullman was also nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for the 2006 Kennedy Center production of The Subject Was Roses.
Snow first made a name for herself portraying innocent teen Meg Pryor in the acclaimed NBC series American Dreams and later played Amber Von Tussle in the 2007 film Hairspray. Her other film credits include Prom Night, Finding Amanda, Black Water Transit and The Vicious Kind.
