The original Broadway production of infamous musical Carrie may not have lasted long (5 performances only!) but the show's current off-Broadway reworking is definitely attracting audiences. The MCC revival of Carrie has extended for an additional four weeks at off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theatre. The production, helmed by Stafford Arima, will now run through April 22. Starring Marin Mazzie and Molly Ranson as Margaret and Carrie White, respectively, the musical officially opens March 1.
Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, Carrie tells the story of tormented girl (Ranson) with telekinetic powers, and her relationships with her overbearing mother (Mazzie) and the mean kids at school.
Joining Mazzie and Ranson are Christy Altomare as Sue Snell, Carmen Cusack as Miss Gardener, Jeanna de Waal as Chris Hargensen, Derek Klena as Tommy Ross and Ben Thompson as Billy Nolan. The production also features Wayne Wilcox, Corey Boardman, Blair Goldberg, F. Michael Haynie, Andy Mientus, Elly Noble, Mackenzie Bell, Jake Boyd, Anne Tolpegin and Jen Sese.
MCC’s Carrie features additional music and lyrics by Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford and an updated book by Lawrence D. Cohen, who previously wrote the screenplay for the novel's 1976 film adaptation, directed by Brian DePalma film.
