Catch Me If You Can Sets Broadway Closing Date

Catch Me If You Can, the high-flying Broadway musical starring Aaron Tveit and Norbert Leo Butz, will play its final performance on September 4. At the time of its closing, the show will have played 32 previews and 170 regular performances at Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre.

Catch Me If You Can features a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, a book by Terrence McNally, choreography by Jerry Mitchell and direction by Jack O’Brien. Based on the book and hit 2002 DreamWorks movie, the musical follows the real-life story of Frank Abagnale Jr., a world-class con artist who passed himself off as a doctor, a lawyer and a jet pilot—all before the age of 21. With straight-arrow FBI agent Carl Hanratty on Frank's trail, the show offers a jet-setting, cat-and-mouse chase set to a swinging ‘60s score.

The production garnered four Tony Award nominations (with Butz winning Best Actor in a Musical) and was nominated for seven Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards. It was also nominated for three Drama League Awards, six Astaire Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards and six Drama Desk Award. In addition to the Tony Award, Butz won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical and the Astaire Award for Best Male Dancer.

In addition to Tveit and Butz, the show stars Tom Wopat and Kerry Butler. The cast also includes Rachel De Benedet, Linda Hart, Nick Wyman , Joe Cassidy, Timothy McCuen Piggee, Brandon Wardell, Sara Andreas, Alex Ellis, Will Erat, Jennifer Frankel, Lisa Gajda, Bob Gaynor, Kearran Giovanni, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Nick Kenkel, Grasan Kingsberry, Michael X. Martin, Aleks Pevec, Kristin Piro, Rachelle Rak, Joe Aaron Reid, Angie Schworer, Sabrina Sloan, Sarrah Strimel, Charlie Sutton, Katie Webber and Candice Marie Woods.

A national tour will launch in the fall of 2012.
