Death Livens Up Off-Broadway on Holiday’s Opening Night!

Off-Broadway was in a lively mood on July 21, when brand new musical Death Takes a Holiday premiered at the Laura Pels Theatre! The sparkling new piece from Tony winner Maury Yeston (Nine, Titanic) stars dreamy British tenor Julian Ovenden as the title character who, determined to finally experience the joys of life, arrives at an Italian villa disguised as a Russian prince. Unfortunately on this night, even Death couldn’t overcome a bout of laryngitis, so Ovenden’s stalwart understudy Kevin Earley went on in his place. Aided by a cast of Broadway vets like Rebecca Luker, Matt Cavenaugh and Jill Paice, Earley breathed life into this lavish new piece. After the curtain fell on this glamorous evening, the cast headed to the nearby Hard Rock Café to celebrate. Click on to join in the festivities!
