Jayne Houdyshell, Mary Beth Peil & More to Join Bernadette Peters in Follies on Broadway

Tony nominees Jayne Houdyshell and Mary Beth Peil have joined the cast of the upcoming Broadway transfer of Stephen Sondheim's Follies. Houdyshell will play Hattie Walker, with Peil taking on the role of Solange LaFitte. As previously announced, stars Bernadette Peters, Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein, Ron Raines and Elaine Paige will reprise their roles from the show’s starry Kennedy Center production earlier this year. Directed by Eric Schaeffer, the limited engagement will begin performances August 7 at the Marquis Theatre, with an opening night set for September 12.

In addition to Houdyshell and Peil, the Broadway cast will include Christian Delcroix as Young Buddy, Grammy and Emmy-winner Rosalind Elias as Heidi Schiller, Colleen Fitzpatrick as Dee Dee West, Lora Lee Gayer as Young Sally, Michael Hayes as Roscoe, Florence Lacey as Sandra Crane, David Sabin as Dimitri Weismann, Kirsten Scott as Young Phyllis, Frederick Strother as Max Deems, Nick Verina as Young Ben, Tony nominee Susan Watson as Emily Whitman and Terri White as Stella Deems. Casting for the role of Theodore Whitman is to be announced.

Rounding out the company are Lawrence Alexander, Brandon Bieber, John Carroll, Mathew deGuzman, Sara Edwards, Leslie Donna Flesner, Jenifer Foote, Leah Horowitz, Suzanne Hylenski, Danielle Jordan, Joseph Kolinski, Amanda Kloots-Larsen, Brittany Marcin, Erin N. Moore, Pamela Otterson, Clifton Samuels, Kiira Schmidt, Brian Shepard, Amos Wolff and Ashley Yeater.

On the soon-to-be demolished stage of the crumbling Weismann Theatre, a reunion is being held to honor the Weissman Follies and the beautiful showgirls who were once its stars. As two couples remember their pasts and face the harsh realities of the present, the shadows of their younger selves remind them of the complicated steps they've danced, both on the stage and throughout their lives. Featuring a book by James Goldman and music and lyrics by Sondheim, Follies contains well-known songs including “Broadway Baby,” “I’m Still Here,” “Too Many Mornings,” “Could I Leave You?” and “Losing My Mind.”
