Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski is adaptating the Broadway comedy hit God of Carnage for the big screen, according to his wife, Emmanuelle Seigner. The actress spilled the beans on the secret project in an interview with Elle.
Seigner recently worked with Carnage playwright Yazmina Reza on Chicas, Reza's upcoming film adaptation (and debut as a director) of her play A Spanish Play. In the interview, Seigner says that Reza has been very supportive of Polanski and Seigner during their recent legal issues involving his 1977 arrest for unlawful sex with a minor. Polanski is currently serving house arrest in Gstaad, Switzerland.
God of Carnage, about two sets of parents who meet for a heated discussion about their feuding children, premiered in Zurich, Switzerland in 2006 and played in Paris and London prior to landing on Broadway in 2009. A financial success, the play won the Tony Award for Best Play and is still running at the Jacobs Theatre with Jimmy Smits, Christine Lahti, Annie Potts and original British star Ken Stott in the leads.
Polanski won the Academy Award in 2003 for Best Director for The Pianist. He was previously nominated for screenwriting for Rosemary's Baby and direction for Chinatown and Tess. Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnon star in his latest film, The Ghost Writer, which will premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February.
