Guarini was an aspiring stage actor when he chose American Idol over a part in The Lion King. During the first season of American Idol, he became a popular star, even though he eventually lost the big prize to Kelly Clarkson. After the competition was over, he was quickly signed to RCA records and after a tour with Clarkson and the filming of their movie From Justin to Kelly began recording his self-titled debut album, which came out on June 10, 2003. From Justin to Kelly was released in theaters 10 days later. Guarini was reportedly dropped from RCA Records last winter.
Guarini, who appeared in Good Vibrations this summer at Vassar College, was the only Good Vibrations cast member who has name recognition with audiences across the country. However he was only listed in the ensemble of the show, with his character Jan not being considered a principal.
Good Vibrations, directed and choreographed by John Carrafa, is scheduled to begin previews at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on December 20 in preparation for a January 27 opening. Tituss Burgess, David Larsen, Kate Reinders, Brandon Wardell and Jessica-Snow Wilson will continue to star.
A replacement for Guarini has not been named at this time.
