When the producers of the hit revival of Hair announced an open casting call for an all-new Broadway Tribe, they made plans to screen 500 actors—if that many showed up. Well! By the time the doors opened at the Public Theater on January 21 (temperature: 31 degrees), upwards of 1,000 Claude and Crissy wannabes were circling the block, resumes in hand. The casting gurus quickly added more slots to the day-long event as the young performers streamed in to pick up coveted wristbands stamped with an audition time. Broadway.com captured the colorful scene at the dawning of a new Hair cast.
