The wacky world of The House of Blue Leaves is currently delighting audiences at Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre, where a revival of John Guare’s dark comedy stars Ben Stiller as would-be composer Artie Shaughnessy, Tony nominee Edie Falco as his wife, Bananas, and Jennifer Jason Leigh as his mistress, Bunny Flingus. Broadway.com resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson recently checked out these dysfunctional folks and penned a portrait of the stars and the rest of the talented cast. Relive the day the Pope came to Queens in 1965 with Squigs’ latest work of art.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Photo by Matthew Murphy
