The good news just doesn’t stop for super-hot Glee star Darren Criss: Days after being announced as Daniel Radcliffe’s replacement in the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Criss has been confirmed for the cast of the forthcoming film comedy Imogene, starring Kristen Wiig and Annette Bening. In an interview with New York magazine, producer Celine Rattray revealed that Criss will play “a younger love interest” for Wiig.
Imogene stars Wiig as a semi-successful playwright who fakes a suicide attempt to get the attention of an ex-boyfriend. After her plan fails, she ends up back in New Jersey living with her drug addict mom, to be played in full floozy mode by Bening. Theater vet Natasha Lyonne has been cast as a Jersey Shore girl working on the boardwalk and the love interest of Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald (Finian’s Rainbow, Young Frankenstein).
“When Kristen goes back home from New Jersey she falls for someone,” Rattray said of Criss’ role in the movie, which will be directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (The Nanny Diaries, American Splendor) from a script by Michelle Morgan. No start or release date for Imogene has been announced.
