Tony winner Wilson Jermaine Heredia will replace Robin De Jesus in the role of Jacob in the Tony-winning revival of La Cage aux Folles. Heredia will begin performances on February 15, the same time that the previously announced Harvey Fierstein and Jeffrey Tambor will join the company in the leading roles of Albin and Georges (respectively).
Heredia made his Broadway debut in Rent, for which he received the 1996 Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and an Obie Award. He recreated his role in Rent in the original London production of the show, garnering an Olivier nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, and in the feature film. His other stage credits include Eli’s Coming, The New Americans and The Tower. His film and television credits include Three Chris’s, The Girl from the Naked Eye, Descent, Nailed, Johnny Was, Flawless, On a Mission from God, Without a Trace, Medium and Law and Order SVU.
La Cage aux Folles features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and book by Fierstein, based on the play by Jean Poiret. Current stars Kelsey Grammer, Douglas Hodge, who won a Tony Award for his performance in the show, and De Jesus will play their final performances on February 13.
