The Broadway revival of A Little Night Music was expected to close for good on June 20, but at the last minute, two bona-fine theatrical superstars agreed to step in: Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch. Not only are Peters and Stritch tailor-made for the roles of glamorous actress Desiree Armfeldt and her sharp-tongued mother, they’re both expert interpreters of the songs of Stephen Sondheim. At a recent press event, the stars chatted about why the Music should play on through the summer, then sang each other’s praises. A Little Night Music resumes performances on July 13 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. It’s a summer event, for sure!
