Phantom Sequel Love Never Dies to Close in London

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies will close at the end of the summer. The sequel to the record-breaking The Phantom of the Opera will play its final performance at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre on August 27, according to Variety.

The musical features music by Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater and a book by Ben Elton. It opened on March 9, 2010, directed by Jack O’Brien and starring Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom, Sierra Boggess as Christine Daae and Joseph Millson as Raoul. The production was nominated for seven Olivier Awards but did not receive any trophies. It was then revised and re-reviewed but never caught fire like its predecessor, which is about to celebrate 25 years in the West End.

Love Never Dies continues the story of the Phantom, who has moved from his lair in the Paris Opera House to haunt the fairgrounds of Coney Island. Set 10 years after the disappearance of the Phantom from Paris, the musical reunites the mysterious maestro and the object of his romantic obsession.

The current cast features original star Karimloo alongside Celia Graham, David Thaxton, Haley Flaherty, Tracey Penn, Charles Brunton, Jack Costello, Daniel Dowling, Harry Polden, Liz Robertson and Adam Pearce.

Broadway plans for the show are uncertain. A a well-received production recently opened in Australia.
