The unique song stylings of Pierce Brosnan will return to the big screen on September 20 in a sing-along screening of Mamma Mia! at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City. The one-night-only event is being held as part of the tenth anniversary celebration of the Broadway run of the musical, which features songs made famous by ABBA. Both the stage and film versions of Mamma Mia! were written by Catherine Johnson and directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
Released in 2008, the film adaptation of Mamma Mia! starred Oscar winner Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan, Amanda Seyfried as her bride-to-be daughter Sophie, and Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard and Oscar winner Colin Firth as Sam, Bill and Harry, Donna’s youthful loves and possible fathers of her daughter. Tony winner Christine Baranski and Julie Walters played Donna’s pals Tanya and Rosie.
Mamma Mia! opened at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre on October 18, 2001, and is poised to become the 10th longest running show in Broadway history later this month.
