The Roundabout Theatre Company has announced two additional productions for the 2010-2011 season: two-time Tony winner Cherry Jones will headline George Bernard Shaw’s Mrs. Warren’s Profession and Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis will star in Tennessee Williams’ The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore.
Mrs. Warren’s Profession, directed by Doug Hughes, will begin performances on September 3 at the American Airlines Theatre. It tells the story of Kitty Warren, a mother who makes a terrible sacrifice for her daughter Vivie’s independence.
The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore, directed by Michael Wilson, will play off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre beginning on January 7. This haunting drama takes place at the picturesque Italian mountaintop home of Flora Goforth. Flora is a wealthy American widow who has detached from the world in order to write her memoirs. When a handsome and mysterious young visitor arrives without warning to keep Flora company in her final hours, this dreamlike play blossoms into a fascinating meditation on life and death.
In addition to the two new additions to the season, performance dates have been confirmed for previously announced productions, including Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by and starring Brian Bedford. That production will begin previews on December 20 and open on Broadway on January 13 at American Airlines Theatre. Julia Cho’s The Language Archive, directed by Mark Brokaw, will begin performances on September 24 and open on October 17 at off-Broadway’s Laura Pels Theatre. Kimberly Rosenstock’s Tigers Be Still, directed by Sam Gold, which has been announced for Roundabout Underground, will begin previews on September 10 and open on October 3.
