The rain outside was torrential, but the mood inside the Acorn Theatre was high—not to mention dry!—on the June 9 opening night of One Arm, the latest offering from off-Broadway's New Group. Helmed Moises Kaufman, One Arm is an adaptation of a Tennessee Williams short story about a navy boxer, played by Claybourne Elder, whose life spirals into despair after he loses an arm in an accident. New Group alums like film star Ethan Hawke and playwright Jonathan Marc Sherman stopped by to take in the company’s ambitious stage undertaking before heading to neighborhood haunt West Bank Cafe to celebrate in style.
