As a barrage of new comedies take over Broadway this fall, we asked which current comedic performance by a Broadway star is your favorite. The votes are in, and fans have named Kristin Chenoweth's portrayal Fran Kubelik in Promises, Promises the funniest on the Great White Way. The Tony- and Emmy-winning actress scored 41% of votes thanks to her performance as the musical's lovelorn cafeteria assistant. Chenoweth will continue to keep audiences rolling in the aisles at the Broadway Theatre through January 2 opposite Sean Hayes and Molly Shannon.
Trailing in second place came Broadway.com's very own video blogger, The Addams Family's Jackie Hoffman. With her kooky wig, raggy clothes and giant mole, Hoffman's Grandma landed 12% of the votes. Following in third place came another Addams relative: the family's patriarch Gomez, played by Nathan Lane. The two-time Tony winner earned 8% of votes.
Even with the show still in previews, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown's Laura Benanti landed in fourth place. The Tony winner took home 7% of votes. Fifth place found a three-way tie between this year's Tony winning Best Actor (La Cage aux Folles' Douglas Hodge), Tony host (Promises, Promises' Sean Hayes) and Hayes' new Promises co-star, Molly Shannon. All three actors took in 5% of votes.
Thanks for voting!
