Tam Mutu, Karen Mason & More Join Sierra Boggess in Rebecca on Broadway

Additional principal casting has been announced for the forthcoming Broadway production of Rebecca, starring the previously announced Sierra Boggess in the leading role of “I.” Michael Blakemore and Francesca Zambello will jointly direct the production, a musical adaptation of the novel by Daphne du Maurier, which will begin previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on March 27, 2012, and open on April 22.

Joining Boggess and the previously announced James Barbour as Jack Favell, will be Broadway newcomer Tam Mutu as Maxim de Winter, Karen Mason as Mrs. Danvers, John Dossett at Frank Crowley, Donna English as Beatrice de Winter and Nick Wyman as Giles.

Based on the classic novel (later turned into an Oscar-winning film by Alfred Hitchcock), Rebecca is the story of Maxim de Winter, his new wife (“I”) and Mrs. Danvers, the controlling and manipulative housekeeper of Maxim’s West Country estate of Manderley, where the memory of his first wife, the glamorous and mysterious Rebecca, still casts a shadow.

Mutu’s London stage credits include Love Never Dies and Les Miserables on the West End, as well as Love's Labour's Lost, Anything Goes, South Pacific, Orange Peel and Royal Hunt of the Sun.

Mason has been seen on Broadway in Wonderland, Hairspray, Mamma Mia!, Sunset Boulevard, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway and Play Me a Country Song.

Dossett’s Broadway credits include The Constant Wife, Democracy, a Tony nominated performance in Gypsy, Dinner at Eight, Mamma Mia! and Ragtime.

English has appeared on Broadway in Lend Me a Tenor and 1987, and off-Broadway in Forbidden Broadway: SVU: Special Victims Unit, Taking a Chance on Love, Ruthless and Company.

Wyman has appeared on Broadway in Catch Me If You Can, A Tale of Two Cities, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Les Misérables.

Rebecca features an original book and lyrics by Michael Kunze, music by Sylvester Levay, English book adaptation by Christopher Hampton and English lyrics by Hampton and Kunze. Graciela Daniele will create musical staging for the Broadway production. Scenic design is by Peter J. Davidson, costumes by Jane Greenwood, lighting by Mark McCullough, sound by Peter Fitzgerald, special effects by Gregory Meeh and projections by Sven Ortel. Musical direction and supervision is by Kevin Stites.
