Relatively Speaking, Triple Bill by Woody Allen, Ethan Coen & Elaine May, Headed for Broadway

A triple-bill of one-act comedies by the all-star team of Woody Allen, Ethan Coen and Elaine May is headed for Broadway. Collectively titled Relatively Speaking, the plays will begin previews on an unspecified date in September and open in October at a theater to be announced, directed by John Turturro. No casting or creative team members have been announced.

The official announcement of the production did not specify titles or plotlines for the three plays, but The New York Times reports that Allen’s play is titled Honeymoon Motel and was written within four weeks after the Oscar-winning writer and director received a call from producer Julian Schlossberg. “It’s a broad comedy, for laughs, no redeeming social value,” Allen said in an interview. May’s play is reportedly titled George Is Dead, and Coen’s is called Talking Cure. A website for Relatively Speaking says that the plays are "about mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, parents and children...a heartfelt and hilarious evening of one-act plays with a common bond: the insanity that can only come from family."

Allen and May previously collaborated with David Mamet on the one-act compilation Death Defying Acts at the Atlantic Theater Company, and Coen presented his own collection of one-acts, Almost an Evening, at Atlantic. Turturro, who will make his Broadway debut as a director, has appeared in four films from Ethan Coen and his brother Joel, The Big Lebowski, Miller’s Crossing, Barton Fink and O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Relatively Speaking is being produced by Schlossberg and Letty Aronson, Allen’s sister and a producer of his films.
