Fans who haven’t been able to make it to Broadway to see Constantine Maroulis in his Tony Award nominated role as Drew in Rock of Ages are in luck. The leading man and American Idol alum has signed on for the national tour of the hit jukebox tuner, set to launch at Chicago’s Bank of America Theatre on September 21. The debut engagement of the tour runs through October 3. No other casting has been released at this time.
"It gives us a tremendous sense of pride and excitement to have Constantine star in our very first national tour after originating the role on Broadway,” producers Matthew Weaver and Carl Levin said in a statement. “He is the heart and soul of our show and we’re thrilled that all of America will get to see his incredible performance.”
Other venues for the first national tour include: Boston, MA (October 6-17); Minneapolis, MN (October 19-24); Cincinnati, OH (October 26-November 7); Pittsburgh, PA (November 23-28); Baltimore, MD (November 30-December 5); Columbus, OH (December 7-12); Fort Lauderdale, FL (December 28-January 9, 2011); Orlando, FL (January 11-16); Clearwater, FL (January 18-23); Louisville, KY (January 25-30); Seattle, WA (February 8-13); Los Angeles, CA (February 15-27); Costa Mesa, CA (March 1-6); Indianapolis, IN (April 12-17); Des Moines, IA (April 19-24); Kansas City, MO (May 3-8); San Antonio, TX (May 10-15); Dallas, TX (May 17-29); Houston, TX (May 31-June 12); and Washington, DC (July 12-24). Additional dates and locations will be announced shortly.
Maroulis has been with the production since its original off-Broadway debut in October of 2008. Voted Broadway.com’s 2009 Star of the Year, Maroulis’ other Broadway credits include The Wedding Singer. Off-Broadway, he appeared in Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. The actor was also a guest regular on the daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
