New York’s Hilton Theatre has assumed a new moniker. Foxwoods Resort Casino and live music company Live Nation have announced a multi-year partnership that grants Foxwoods the right to put its name on the 42nd Street house. Effective immediately, the 1,800-seat venue—the soon-to-be home of incoming tuner Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark—will now be known as the Foxwoods Theatre.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Foxwoods brand will be incorporated into all exterior and interior venue signage, including the theater’s sign overlooking 42nd Street and the space’s VIP Suite and Dress Circle Lobby. The sponsorship also provides Foxwoods with access to the venue for corporate and philanthropic events, as well as live theater tickets, including Spider-Man.
The Hilton-now-Foxwoods Theatre has undergone extensive renovations over the last year to accommodate the hotly anticipated Spider-Man. Originally named the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, the theater was developed by Canadian producer Garth Drabinsky and on the site of the Apollo and Lyric Theatres and was dedicated in December 1997 with the original Broadway run of Ragtime as its debut production. Its most recent tenant as the Hilton Theatre was Young Frankenstein.
“Foxwoods recognizes the importance of entertainment to New Yorkers and the millions of travelers who visit New York every year, making the Foxwoods Theatre, in the heart of the historic Broadway theater district, and ideal venue for Foxwoods Resort Casino to reach new and existing customers,” General Manager of the Foxwoods Theatre Micah Hollingsworth commented in a statement. “The theater itself is the perfect combination of historic grandeur and modern conveniences.”
