Grammy winner Alicia Keys will add Broadway producer to her resume with the mounting of Lydia R. Diamond's Stick Fly this fall. The play will begin previews on November 18 at the Lyceum Theatre, with opening night set for December 8. Kenny Leon (Fences) will direct. No casting has been announced.
Stick Fly follows the gathering of an African-American family at their luxurious Martha's Vineyard vacation home. The play "is so beautifully written and portrays black America in a way that we don't often get to see in entertainment," Keys said in a statement. Stick Fly premiered at the Congo Square Theatre Company in Chicago in 2005 and has been produced at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, N.J., Arena Stage in Washington and Huntington Theater Company in Boston and Matrix Theatre Company in Los Angeles.
Keys will present the play alongside producers Reuben Canon and Nelle Nugent.
