The Addams Family has found a Broadway home. The new musical, starring two-time Tony winners Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth, will play the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Previews of the show, directed and designed by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, will begin on March 4, 2010, with opening night set for April 8, 2010. The production will have a pre-Broadway engagement at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre in Chicago beginning on November 13, 2009.
Joining Lane and Neuwirth in the cast are Terrence Mann as Mal Beineke, Carolee Carmello as Alice Beineke, Kevin Chamberlin as Uncle Fester, Jackie Hoffman as Grandmama, Zachary James as Lurch, Adam Riegler as Pugsley, Wesley Taylor as Lucas Beineke and Krysta Rodriguez as Wednesday.
Based on the bizarre and beloved characters created by Charles Addams, this original story finds the famously macabre Addams Family put to the test when outsiders come to dinner, hurling Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Fester, Grandmama and Lurch headlong into a night that will change the family forever.
The Addams Family features a book by the Jersey Boys team of Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party). Choreography is by Sergio Trujillo (Next to Normal, Jersey Boys).
The Lunt-Fontanne’s current tenant, The Little Mermaid, is scheduled to close on August 30.
