Trevor Braun to Express Himself as Michael in Billy Elliot

Broadway’s Billy Elliot is gaining a new best friend in stage veteran Trevor Braun. The young actor joins the Tony Award winning new musical as Billy’s pal Michael beginning August 18 at the Imperial Theater. Braun replaces original cast member Frank Dolce, and will rotate the role with Tony Award nominee David Bologna.

Braun made his Broadway debut in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, following up with The Little Mermaid. Off-Broadway, he has appeared in Please Don’t Eat the Daisies and Growing Up 70s. Film and television credits include Arranged, Wonderpets!, Nick Jr. and Between the Lions.

Billy Elliot currently stars David Alvarez, Tommy Batchelor, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish as Billy, Haydn Gwynne as Mrs. Wilkinson, Gregory Jbara as Dad, Will Chase as Tony and Carole Shelley as Grandma. The musical, featuring songs by Sir Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry, opened on Broadway November 12, 2009, going on to win ten 2009 Tony Awards.

Billy Elliot is the funny, heartwarming tale of a young boy with a dream, and a celebration of his triumph against the odds. Set against the historic British miners’ strike of the 1980s, the story follows Billy’s journey as a boy in a small mining town who, after stumbling across a ballet class while on his way to a boxing lesson, realizes that his future lay not in the boxing ring but on stage as a dancer.
