Hope Davis, the Tony-nominated star of God of Carnage, will play former First Lady Hillary Clinton in The Special Relationship, a forthcoming HBO/BBC film by Tony- and Oscar-nominated writer Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon), according to Reuters. Richard Loncraine will direct.
Dennis Quaid will play President Bill Clinton opposite Davis, and Michael Sheen and Helen McCrory, who played Tony and Cherie Blair in The Queen, will reprise their roles in The Special Relationship. Davis replaces Julianne Moore, who dropped out to star in the feature film The Kids Are All Right.
The Special Relationship chronicles the unique and sometimes turbulent political relationship between newly installed British Prime Minister Blair and U.S. President Clinton in the late 1990s.
God of Carnage will go on a summer hiatus on July 27 and resume performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on September 8. Davis and co-stars Jeff Daniels, James Gandolfini and Tony winner Marcia Gay Harden have signed on to appear in the Tony-winning play through November 15.
