Danny Dyer will play Sid Vicious in Roy Smiles’ new play Kurt & Sid at London’s Trafalgar Studio 2. Shaun Evans will co-star as Kurt Cobain in the new drama, which is set to begin previews on September 9 and open on September 14.
Kurt & Sid imagines a meeting between the two musical icons, one of whom died of a heroin overdose in 1979 (Vicious) and the other dead of a suicide in 1994 (Nirvana’s Cobain). On the cusp of pulling the trigger, Cobain is visited by a man purporting to be Sid Vicious. Whether he is a ghost, a hallucination, a dream or a Punk impersonator remains to be seen as the two musicians trade quips about the emptiness of fame and share a mutual understanding about drug addiction and self-destruction.
Dyer has appeared onstage in productions of Pinter’s Celebration, No Man’s Land and The Homecoming. His screen work includes Human Traffic, Mean Machine, The Football Factory, The Business and Adulthood.
Evans, recently seen in a TV adaptation of The Take, has appeared onscreen in Teachers, Ashes to Ashes, Boy A, The Virgin Queen and Telstar.
