The Roundabout Theatre Company has announced that its 2010 Spring Gala will honor Stephen Sondheim on his 80th birthday with a gala dinner and star-studded tribute to the Broadway composer. Sondheim 80 has been set for March 22, 2010; the location and additional details will be announced shortly.
Roundabout has a long relationship with Sondheim, including producing five Tony-nominated revivals of the composer's musicals: Company (1995), Follies (2001), Assassins (a Best Revival Tony winner in 2004), Pacific Overtures (2004) and Sunday in the Park with George (2008). Earlier this year, Roundabout produced a gala concert reading of A Little Night Music at Studio 54 starring the late Natasha Richardson, Victor Garber and Vanessa Redgrave.
All proceeds from Sondheim 80 will benefit Roundabout’s Musical Theatre Fund.
