Tony Award nominee David Alan Grier has signed on for the forthcoming Broadway premiere of David Mamet’s Race. Grier joins previously announced stars James Spader, Richard Thomas and Kerry Washington in the satirical play, which begins previews at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on November 16 and is set to open December 6, directed by the playwright. No information about the storyline of the play has been revealed.
A Tony nominee for playing Jackie Robinson in The First, Grier has appeared on Broadway in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Dreamgirls and off-Broadway in A Soldier's Play and the Public Theater's productions of Richard III and The Merry Wives of Windsor. He was featured in Des McAnuff's production of The Wiz at La Jolla Playhouse. Grier's TV and film credits include Chocolate News, In Living Color, Life with Bonnie, Little Man, The Woodsman, 15 Minutes and a recent appearance on Dancing with the Stars.
Race will feature scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Paul Tazewell and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.
The play will be produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler, the team behind Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow, Glengarry Glen Ross and November as well as August: Osage County, Blithe Spirit and Hair.
