On August 2, the hit musical Mamma Mia! passed Life With Father to become the 14th longest-running show in Broadway history. The show, about a mother, a daughter and three possible dads, also earned the distinction of having run longer than any straight play in Broadway history.
Mamma Mia! played its first Broadway performance on October 5, 2001, and opened on October 18. Set to music by ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, the show has now played 3,225 performances at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre.
The original West End production of Mamma Mia! is celebrating 10 years and over 4,000 performances in London, and an international tour of the show has visited more than 40 foreign cities.
