Broadway vets Carly Jibson (Cry-Baby, Hairspray), Clarke Thorell (Catch Me If You Can, Hairspray), Sarah Saltzberg (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Kristine Zbornik (A Catered Affair, Road Show) and Randy Blair (Adding Machine) will star in Fat Camp at the 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival. The show will play at the Acorn Theatre on Theater Row on September 30 at 8PM, October 2 and 7 at 9PM, October 3 and 4 at 1PM and October 8 at 5PM, directed by Alex Timbers.
The cast will also feature Matthew David Allen, Melissa Bergland, Ally Bonino, Nancy Renee Braun, Brooke Engen, Molly Hager, Cale Krise, Michael Mendez, Ryah Nixon, Larry Owens, Jessica Lea Patty, Marc-Sully Saint-Fleur, Josh Segarra, Kate Weber and Tracy Weiler.
Fat Camp features a book by Randy Blair and Timothy Michael Drucker (creators of the 2008 Fringe Festival’s Outstanding Musical winner Perez Hilton Saves the Universe), lyrics by Blair, and music by Matthew Roi Berger. A plot summary states: Nothing is going to make rock-and-roll rebel Robert Grisetti change this summer—except for one ex-Navy Seal father, two suspiciously cheery camp counselors, and a 12-foot barbed wire fence. At Camp Overton, a weight loss retreat for hefty teenagers, secrets, sex, S’mores, and self-image collide in a new musical exploring the trials and triumphs of being “the fat kid.”
Choreography for Fat Campis by Connor Gallagher, with musical direction by Jason DeBord. Scenic design is by Wilson Chin, costumes by Emily Rebholz, sound design by Daniel Baker (Classic Stage Co’s Uncle Vanya, and lighting by Jason Lyons. The show is being produced by NYMF, Michael Minarik & Eleven Entertainment.
