Fans of two-time Tony Award winner Chita Rivera are in for a treat: The Broadway legend is set to release a new solo studio album And Now I Swing on October 13 on the new Yellow Sound Label. Featuring classic theater songs from shows such as Chicago, Sweet Charity, The Happy Time and The Visit as well as jazz standards, the CD boasts new arrangements recorded by Rivera accompanied by New York’s finest musicians.
“And Now I Swing is a realization of one of Chita’s lifelong dreams,” album producer and Yellow Sound Label co-founder Michael Croiter said in a statement. “We are proud to deliver this recording to both theater fans and music aficionados who enjoy groundbreaking albums.” To celebrate the CD release, Rivera will perform at the New York jazz club Birdland October 14-17 and is set to begin a tour of her concert Chita Rivera: My Broadway in January 2010.
Among Rivera’s many accomplishments are two Best Actress Tony Awards (for The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman), seven additional Tony nominations and a Kennedy Center Honor. On August 12, she was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. The complete track listing for And Now I Swing is as follows:

As previously announced, Yellow Sound Label will release Alan Cumming’s I Bought a Blue Car on September 22. On tap from the new independent label, founded by Croiter and Tony winner Bill Sherman (In the Heights), are solo albums from Tony winner Karen Olivo and Christopher Jackson.
