Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem is now confirmed for the West End. Tony winner Mark Rylance leads the cast in the production, directed by Ian Rickson. The play will begin performances at the Apollo Theatre on January 28, and officially open on February 10, 2010.
Jerusalem, which debuted at London’s Royal Court Theatre in July, centers on Johnny Byron, a rural degenerate and wanted man. On the morning of the local county fair this modern-day Pied Piper is a wanted man. The council officials want to serve him an eviction notice, his children want their dad to take them to the fair, Troy Whitworth wants to give him a serious kicking and a motley crew of mates wants his ample supply of drugs and alcohol.
In addition to Rylance, the cast of Jerusalem includes Mackenzie Crook (Rickson’s recent production of The Seagull on Broadway), Tom Brooke, Alan David and Lucy Montgomery as well as Jessica Barden, Greg Burridge, Lewis Coppen, Aimeé-Ffion Edwards, Lenny Harvey, Gerard Horan, Danny Kirrane, Charlotte Mills, Sarah Moyle, Dan Poole, Harvey Robinson and Barry Sloane.
The show features set and costume design by Ultz, lighting design by Mimi Jordan Sherin, sound design by Ian Dickinson for Autograph and original music by Stephen Warbeck.
Jerusalem is set to play the Apollo through April 24, 2010.
