Two-time Tony winner Cherry Jones has been honored for playing the President of the United States on 24 at the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. The well-loved theater star won a trophy in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
During her speech, first-time winner Jones acknowledged the 24 cast and crew: "It's a great artistic team that you are. I am here because of your care and your many gifts, So kiddos, we share this. It will be on the craft services table tomorrow."
Jones won Tonys for The Heiress and Doubt and was also honored with nominations for Our Country's Good and A Moon for the Misbegotten. Other Broadway credits include Angels in America, Major Barbara, Imaginary Friends and Faith Healer.
The role of President Allison Taylor on season seven of 24 has been Jones' most notable Hollywood credit, but she's also been seen in many movies, including The Horse Whisperer, Cradle Will Rock, Erin Brockovich, The Perfect Story, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and The Village.
Other actresses in the category were Rose Byrne (Damages), God of Carnage star Hope Davis (In Treatment), Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy), Dianne Wiest (In Treatment) and Chandra Wilson (Grey's Anatomy).
