Six actors have joined the Tony-winning Broadway revival of Hair. Krystal Joy Brown, Heath Calvert, Matt DeAngelis, Rachel Bay Jones, Hannah Shankman and Ryan Watkinson are the newest members of the Tribe at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, where Hair continues its hit run, directed by Diane Paulus.
Although the producers did not specify the roles being played by the newcomers, Rachel Bay Jones has apparently replaced Megan Lawrence as Mother. Two other original revival cast members have departed for new shows: Saycon Sengbloh, who played Abraham Lincoln and was part of the “White Boys” trio, is now in the Broadway cast of Fela; and Theo Stockman, featured as Hubert, is now in the cast of American Idiot at Berkeley Rep.
The bios of five of the newcomers do not list any theatrical credits. Brown has played Mimi on the national tour of Rent and Monique in the off-Broadway production of Streetlights.
The Hair cast currently includes Sasha Allen, Ato Blankson-Wood, Steel Burkhardt, Jackie Burns, Briana Carlson-Goodman, Allison Case, Gavin Creel, Lauren Elder, Allison Guinn, Chasten Harmon, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Kaitlin Kiyan, Andrew Kober, Josh Lamon, Caissie Levy, Nicole Lewis, John Moauro, Darius Nichols, Brandon Pearson, Paris Remillard, Megan Reinking, Bryce Ryness, Michael James Scott, Maya Sharpe, Kacie Sheik, Will Swenson and Tommar Wilson.
The story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, Hair features book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt McDermot. Featured in the show are such classic hits as “Aquarius,” “Easy to Be Hard,” “Good Morning Starshine,” “Let the Sun Shine In” and the title song.
