Chicago-based playwright Tracy Letts really outdid himself with the 2007 Broadway hit August: Osage County--the epic play about a dysfunctional Midwestern family scored five Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Two years later, Letts is back with Superior Donuts, a dramedy about a jaded hippie running a beaten-down Chicago donut shop and the hustling young shop assistant that opens his eyes to—well, a lot. Direct from the Windy City itself (the show is a transfer from the Steppenwolf Theatre Company), the new piece stars film regular Michael McKean (of Spinal Tap and Best in Show fame) as the aforementioned hippie, as well as newcomer John Michael Hill as the industrious young gun who sets the play in motion. Will Letts repeat his Osage County success with another superior play? See what our Word of Mouth panelists have to say.
