Pour yourself a wry martini folks: Carrie Fisher has officially arrived on Broadway. The writer, actress, singer and queen of one-liners opened her one-woman show Wishful Drinking at Roundabout Theatre Company’s Studio 54 on October 4, ushering in the reign of the former Princess Leia. The show is a comedic examination of Fisher’s life in which she “laughs at things that aren’t funny,” including her life as celebrity spawn (mom is actress Debbie Reynolds, dad is singer Eddie Fisher), struggles with sobriety and mental illness, Star Wars notoriety and a series of heartaches exposed for her audiences’ enjoyment. Stars ranging from Martha Plimpton to Will Swenson to Audra McDonald lined up for the chance to laugh along with Fisher—and we were there to catch all the opening night action.
