Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps plays its final performance at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre.
The comedy thriller, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the classic novel and film and directed by Maria Aitken, opened at the American Airlines Theatre on January 15, 2008. The production moved to the Cort Theatre in April of 2008 and moved yet again in January 2009 to the Helen Hayes Theatre, where it will finish its run. It was nominated for six 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Play and Best Director. The show will have played 771 performances upon closing, making it the longest-running Broadway play in the past seven years.
