In response to ticket demand and enthusiastic reviews, The Brother/Sister Plays has extended at the Public Theater by one week. The trilogy of new works, written by Tarell Alvin McCraney and directed by Tina Landau and Robert O'Hara, began previews October 21 and was originally slated to close on December 13. The run will now continue through December 20.
McCraney’s trilogy is a collection of modern-day stories of kinship, love, heartache and coming-of-age experiences centered around an extended family and community in the Bayou. The trilogy is told in two parts. Part One is a single play, In the Red and Brown Water, directed by Landau. Part Two is made up of The Brothers Size and Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet, directed by O'Hara. All three plays run marathon-style on Saturdays and Sundays.
The complete cast for The Brother/Sister Plays includes Sterling K. Brown as Shango/Shua; Kimberly Hébert Gregory as Aunt Elegua/Shun; Brian Tyree Henry as Egungun/Oshoosi/Tarell; Andre Holland as Elegba/Marcus; Marc Damon Johnson as Ogun; Sean Allan Krill as O Li Roon/Man From State; Nikiya Mathis as Shun/Shaunta Iyun; Kianné Muschett as Oya/Osha; and Heather Alicia Simms as Nia/Mama Moja/Oba.
