The ballroom sensation Burn the Floor has announced a final extension on Broadway, with So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy and Dancing with the Stars’ husband-and-wife team of Edyta Sliwinska and Alec Mazo set to join the cast on January 12. The trio of star dancers will continue through the new closing date of February 14 at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre, directed and choreographed by Jason Gilkison.
Burn the Floor opened in August for what was originally announced as a 12-week limited run. The show will welcome Dancing with the Stars headliners Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kym Johnson on November 27(through January 10), and current stars Anya Garnis and Pasha Kovalev return on January 15, along with Murphy, Mazo and Sliwinska.
Murphy has already been announced as a one-night guest star in Burn the Floor on December 22. Best known for her enthusiastic and emotional judging style on So You Think You Can Dance, she is a U.S. Ballroom Dance Champion and an Austrian National 10-dance and Ballroom Champion. She will be partnered with Vaidas Skimelis.
A native of Russia, Mazo runs ballroom dance schools in the San Francisco Bay area and in Los Angeles. The winner of the first season of Dancing with the Stars with soap actress Kelly Monaco, he was paired with Olympic gold medalist Natalie Coughlin on the current season of the hit TV competition. Mazo appeared in the film Dance with Me and has had roles in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and CSI: NY.
Sliwinska is the only professional dancer to appear on all eight seasons of Dancing with the Stars , most recently with Ashley Hamilton. In 2000, she left her native Poland to pursue the dream of becoming a world-famous Latin dancer. She settled in San Francisco and partnered with Mazo, winning first place in the 2001 International Grand Ball and the 2001 Holiday Ball. On DTWS, she is known for her super-revealing costumes and endless wardrobe of legwarmers.
The cast of Burn the Floor includes Sharna Burgess, Henry Byalikov, Artem Chigvintsev, Kevin Clifton, Sasha Farber, Jeremy Garner, Patrick Helm, Sarah Hives, Melanie Hooper, Peta Murgatroyd, Giselle Peacock, Nuria Santalucia, Mirko Sciolan, Vaidas Skimelis, Emma Slater, Sarah Soriano, Katarina Stumpfova, Damon & Rebecca Sugden, Damian Whitewood, Robin Windsor, Gary Wright and vocalists Ricky Rojas and Rebecca Tapia.
A week after closing on Broadway, Burn the Floor will open in Melbourne, Australia, then tour Asia and the U.S. Cities and dates for the U.S. tour will be announced shortly.
