Tracy Letts’ Superior Donuts will play its final Broadway performance on January 3, 2010 at the Music Box Theatre. The Steppenwolf production, directed by Tina Landau, stars Michael McKean and Jon Michael Hill.
A provocative comedy set in the heart of one of Chicago’s most diverse communities, Superior Donuts centers on Arthur Przybyszewski (McKean) who owns a decrepit doughnut shop in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Franco Wicks (Hill), a black teenager who is his only employee, wants to change the shop for the better. The play explores the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship.
The cast also includes Jane Alderman, Kate Buddeke, Cliff Chamberlain, Michael Garvey, Robert Maffia, James Vincent Meredith and Yasen Peyankov.
The Broadway run began previews on September 16 and opened on October 1.
