Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown will headline his own cabaret show, JRB: Solo at the Beechman, on December 15 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. The evening will feature new material as well as songs from Brown’s shows (The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World, Parade, 13) and his solo CD Wearing Someone Else’s Clothes.
JRB is described as a rare up-close-and-personal evening—no band, no hype, just Brown at a piano sharing his art and his music.
Brown won a Tony Award for Best Original Score for the 1998 musical Parade, which was recently produced at Los Angeles starring T.R. Knight. His semi-autobiographical 2001 musical The Last Five Years won Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Lyrics. A newly remastered CD of his musical 13, including karaoke tracks, will be released shortly by Ghostlight Records. He has completed a musical adaptation of the 1992 film comedy Honeymoon in Vegas, written with Andrew Bergman.
In addition to his theater work, Brown composed an orchestral adaptation of E.B. White’s novel The Trumpet and the Swan, which premiered at the Kennedy Center, and has contributed music to the Nickelodeon TV series The Wonder Pets. He currently teaches musical theater performance and composition at the University of Southern California.
