The 39 Steps may be a West End transfer directed by a Brit, set in the Scottish countryside and starring an Irishman, but the long-running Hitchcock spoof had two truly all-American guests on November 28: former President of the United States Bill Clinton and reigning Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton! The couple dropped in on Helen Hayes Theatre for a post-Thanksgiving matinee of the fast-paced comedy caper (celebrating the news of their daughter Chelsea's recently announced engagement to beau Marc Mezvinsky, perhaps?), never knowing a surprise reunion awaited backstage. Get this: current 39 Steps understudy Nisi Sturgis' grandfather is Bill's former mentor; Clinton even made the decision to run for president in his backyard. There were hugs all around when the Clintons discovered the now grown-up Sturgis during their visit, a heart-warming moment which cast members Sean Mahon, Jill Paice, Jeffrey Kuhn and Arnie Burton patriotically joined.
