This Extends at Playwrights Horizons

Playwrights Horizons has announced a three-week extension for its world premiere production of Melissa James Gibson’s This. The play, directed by Daniel Aukin, received outstanding reviews upon opening on December 2 and will now run at the Mainstage Theatre through January 3, 2010, rather than the previously announced closing date of December 13. This represents the latest extension possible for the show, in spite of demand for tickets.

The cast of This includes Julianne Nicholson, Eisa Davis, Glenn Fitzgerald, Darren Pettie and Louis Cancelmi. (The play includes songs with music by Peter Eldridge and lyrics by Melissa James Gibson, performed by Eisa Davis.)

This centers on Jane (Nicholson), a young widow and her group of friends who are facing the limits of their life choices as they creep toward middle age in New York City.

In addition to This, Playwrights Horizons recently debuted Annie Baker’s acclaimed Circle Mirror Transformation, which will return to the company’s Peter Jay Sharp Theatre for a limited engagement December 15 through January 17.
