Kyle Dean Massey has been tapped to replace Aaron Tveit in the Broadway musical Next to Normal, beginning January 4 at the Booth Theatre. Massey first played the role of Gabe in the summer of 2009 while Tveit was appearing in the pre-Broadway tryout of Catch Me If You Can. Tveit, who has appeared this fall in a major arc of the TV series Gossip Girl, will become the first original cast member to leave Next to Normal after his final performance on January 3.
Massey, a Broadway.com Fresh Face, has appeared on Broadway in Wicked and Xanadu and off-Broadway in Altar Boyz. He has appeared in the national tours of Wicked and 42nd Street and in the TV series Cupid.
Winner of three Tony Awards including Best Score and Best Actress in a Musical, Next to Normal opened on April 15, directed by Michael Greif. The show features music by Tom Kitt, book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and stars Tony winner Alice Ripley, J. Robert Spencer, Jennifer Damiano, Adam Chanler-Berat and Louis Hobson.
