It’s apparently official: Tony Award winner Idina Menzel has been tapped to play the coach of rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline in spring 2010 episodes of Glee. In an Associated Press interview celebrating the show’s four Golden Globe Award nominations, cast member Chris Colfer said, “OK, listen. We had Kristin [Chenoweth, Menzel’s co-star in the original Broadway cast of Wicked], and now Idina’s coming. I can’t even fathom that. I can’t even talk about it. I am so, so excited.”
Glee received Golden Globe nods for Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical), Best Actress (Spring Awakening alum Lea Michele), Best Actor (South Pacific alum Matthew Morrison) and Best Supporting Actress (Jane Lynch, who recently appeared off-Broadway in Love, Loss and What I Wore). In a December 15 chat with the AP, Michele confessed that she and her mother used to dress up to watch awards shows on TV and said of her nomination, “I can’t even believe it.”
