The new hit series Glee and Broadway vet Hugh Jackman were among the winners at the 36th People’s Choice Awards, presented on January 6 in Los Angeles. Glee took home the prize for Favorite New TV Comedy, and Jackman was named Favorite Action Star. The awards are based on year-round internet voting by fans in categories covering movies, television and music.
Other winners included TV stars Hugh Laurie (House), Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy), Steve Carell (The Office), Allyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother) and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres; film stars Johnny Depp, Sandra Bullock and Jim Carrey; “breakout stars” Miley Cyrus and Taylor Lautner; TV series House (drama), The Big Bang Theory (comedy), The Vampire Diaries (new drama) True Blood (TV obsession) and American Idol (TV competition); movies Twilight, Inglourious Basterds (independent movie), Up (family movie) and The Proposal (comedy); and singers Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood and Eminem.
