Maura Tierney and Frances McDormand will appear in Los Angeles and New York runs of James Strahs’ North Atlantic with the Wooster Group, according to Variety. The show, which was first staged in 1983 and most recently seen in New York in 2000, will run February 10-21 at L.A.’s Redcat Theater and March 10-April 25 at the Baryshnikov Arts Center’s Jerome Robbins Theater in New York.
In addition to Tierney and McDormand, the cast will include Wooster Group regulars Kate Valk, Ari Fliakos, Scott Shepherd and Koosil-ja Hwang. The show follows a peacekeeping force on an aircraft carrier in the North Atlantic, late in the Cold War era.
Tierney, the E.R. vet who bowed out of the forthcoming TV series Parenthood to battle breast cancer, has appeared off-Broadway in Some Girls(s), An Oak Tree and Three Changes. The Oscar-winning McDormand starred in the 2008 Broadway revival of The Country Girl and previously appeared in the Wooster Group's To You, the Birdie! (Phedre).
North Atlantic will kick off new multi-year bi-coastal residencies for Wooster Group at the Redcat and the Baryshnikov Arts Center.
