What goes up must come down, particularly Broadway box office results in the week after the holidays. The usual January doldrums have hit the Great White Way, with many shows experiencing steep drops from the previous week’s record receipts. Perennial winners Wicked, The Lion King, Billy Elliot and Jersey Boys remained over $1 million for the week. Four shows (Burn the Floor, In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play, Ragtime, The 39 Steps) ended their Broadway runs, while three star-driven plays (A View from the Bridge, Present Laughter, Time After Time) began gearing up for late-January opening nights.
