Filled with peace, love, freedom and happiness? Feel like letting your hair down and joining the Broadway’s favorite tribe? You’re in luck! The Tony-winning revival of Hair is searching for talented hippies to join its ranks. The musical, which plays at Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre, is holding a non-Equity open casting call on January 21 at the Public Theater, in preparation for the previously announced cast change.
Doors will open at 9am for the audition, which will run from 10am to 6pm. All those auditioning must prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo pop or rock song with sheet music and bring a headshot and a resume.
“I’m a great believer in what can be discovered at an open call, especially non-equity,” said Hair director Diane Paulus commented. As previously announced, the new cast of Hair will debut on Broadway on March 9, while the upcoming London production will feature the original Broadway cast. The London production begins performances at the Gielgud Theatre on April 1, 2010, with opening night set for April 14.
In the charitable spirit of the show, the producers of Hair have organized a food drive for City Harvest to take place in tandem with the auditions. City Harvest, an organization dedicated to feeding New York City’s hungry, is asking for donations. Hair requests that all attending hopefuls bring canned food.
