Broadway veteran Todrick Hall made a splash on American Idol on January 27, earning a "golden ticket" to the show's coveted Hollywood week of auditions by performing an original song.
Hall, who starred in Broadway's The Color Purple alongside American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino, appeared in the show's pre-taped Dallas auditions before judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Joe Jonas, a guest judge for the day. After singing a clever song about the judges and the show, he received applause from everyone but Cowell. "Simon," he said. "I can't get a clap or nothing?" Simon responded with one clap. "I'll take one!" Hall laughed.
In addition to his acting, 24 year old Hall is a playwright, director and choreographer. He most recently wrote and staged OZ, the musical, an updated version of The Wizard of Oz that played around the country and has starred American Idol veterans Diana DeGarmo, Mikalah Gordon and Vonzell Solomon. In addition to The Color Purple (in which Hall appeared in the ensemble and was an understudy for the role of Harpo), he appeared in The Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular.
Hall will be seen back on American Idol when the Hollywood auditions start next month.
